Only the gravid (pregnant) females take a blood meal. The protein is needed for egg
development.
The normal meal for a mosquito is plant nectar.
Mosquitoes must have standing water to develop, (no standing water = no mosquito)
Under optimal conditions, it takes only 3 days to go from laid eggs to adult mosquitoes.
Some mosquitoes lay eggs on the soil, the eggs can remain viable for years, waiting for the next
flooding or irrigation cycle.
